Wine Country Curling is moving from Vacaville to Roseville.
Skatetown marketing manager Susan Sweetser said Thursday it made sense to move the club because most of the active members live in the Roseville area.
“There are a handful of people down there and a bunch of people here,” she said. “We’re very excited to host the club year-round.”
Club member Bob Kuhl of Granite Bay said weekly learn-to-curl sessions last summer at Skatetown drew about 100 people, but those people then didn’t want to drive to Vacaville to continue playing.
Skatetown again plans learn-to-curl nights, beginning Tuesday, March 13, and moving to Mondays thereafter. Moving with the curling club is its annual Crush Bonspiel, scheduled for Labor Day weekend at Skatetown.
“Bonspiel is a curling term for tournaments, with wine,” Kuhl said.
The fifth annual Crush Bonspiel last September at Vacaville Ice Sports drew 36 teams from around the United States, including U.S. Olympian Debbie McCormick.
